How to play in 4D

Explore four dimensions through a map of linked 2D slices. Highlight a neighborhood and discover how the pieces fit together.

Reveal every safe square to win. Each number counts touching mines. Flag squares you believe contain mines; opening a mine ends the game.

01

Four coordinates, one familiar rule

Every square has X, Y, Z, and W coordinates. Two squares are neighbors when each coordinate differs by at most one, excluding the square itself. An interior square has 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 − 1 = 80 neighbors.

02

A map instead of an impossible camera

Each small board is an X–Y slice. Z changes across the slice map; W changes down it. On a narrow screen, use the map to choose one slice to play. On a wide screen, the complete atlas lets you connect clues at a glance.

03

Follow a neighborhood

Focus or point at a square to highlight its neighbors across slices. Its clue counts mines in all those highlighted squares together. A zero can open several slices at once. Your opening is safe; the rest of the board is not guaranteed to be solvable without guessing.

Controls that work on your device

Mouse
Click to reveal. Right-click to flag. Click an open number to chord when its touching flag count matches.
Touch
Tap the flag button to turn Flag mode on or off, then tap a square. Open Board settings to change the board. Scroll the board if it is wider than your screen.
Keyboard
Arrow keys move between squares. Enter or Space uses the selected action; F toggles a flag. Page Up / Page Down changes Z. Shift + Page Up / Page Down changes W. Tab moves between controls.

Your current game saves locally when browser storage is available. A seed link starts the same board from its opening; it does not include your progress. Unlike no-guess mode, these boards may require guessing.
